Bachata

8/25/2024

Bachata - This style of romantic dance originated in the Dominican Republic and is danced widely all over the world today. The basics to bachata are three steps followed by a tap on the 4th count (often including hip movement), which connects with the rhythm of all styles of Bachata music. The knees should be slightly bent so the performer can sway the hips easier. Dance moves, or step variety, during bachata performance strongly depends on the music (such as the rhythms played by the different instruments), setting, mood, and interpretation. Unlike Salsa, Bachata dance does not usually include complex turn patterns, but they are used more and more as the dance evolves.

In our bachata beginner course
, you will learn the basic bachata footwork, timing, and turns. You will also learn to use a dance frame and how to create bachata patterns/combos through leading and following. Lastly, as your beginner skills grow, we love to add in a little bit of bachata musicality and body movement to make sure you are learning the essence of this beautiful Latin dance!

As you progress to an intermediate bachata level, you will continue to learn more complicated bachata patterns/combos, footwork, spins, shines, and timing. We also start teaching you to play with the bachata rhythm, create body movement that connects with the music, and dance in the different styles of bachata (urban, sensual, and traditional/Dominican).

Come and join us for a bachata class this week! We love our bachata night!
